Hi All,
It seems we have reached a bit of a crossroads with our crib situation. Jim and I were just talking the other day about how long we could keep the kids in cribs and in the same bedroom. We decided cribs until three and same bedroom until four sounded good. Well, sure enough, the kids had to find a way to have their opinion heard! For the past three days, I have heard loud noises coming from the nursery during nap time, only to find Drew playing outside of his crib! The crazy thing is I am not completely sure how he is escaping. Apparently he doesn't make too much noise "in the act". Today, I put him and Bree down for nap around 3:30 because they refused to go any sooner. (I know from experience they can not go the whole day without nap without extreme grumpiness, so they get one at 3:30 regardless of whether they think it's a good idea or not.) Well, I then proceeded to go outside and shovel the end of the drive where the snowplow pushed a good deal of snow so that Jim could get the car through. I was out all of 15 minutes, and I return to the telltale loud noises in the nursery. AND, this time the little shyster locked the door! I got him to open it back up, put him back in the crib and asked him to show me how he gets out. He wasn't game for that. So I left the room, but kept the door more than half open and watched from a peeking position for 15 or so minutes. Sure as a watched pot doesn't boil, he did not make his move. So I left my post and here I write.
I was with a group of twin moms this morning, and we discussed this very topic. Everyone was in agreement that almost two is a difficult age to make a move out of cribs. They are too young to understand all the trouble they can get in to.
If Drew is using the dresser or anything else close by to help escape, we can remedy that. But I also would hate to move something that helps him get safely out, and then have him fall and hurt himself. I'm tossing around lots of options, but for the moment I am determined to catch the escapee in action and go from there.
So, we will see what tomorrow brings!

All I can say is good luck. I think you know our story...E&R pretty much just shimmied their way up the rails until they got a leg over, and then over they went. I wish we could have kept them in cribs until 3!!! We'd be avoiding all this no-nap and nighttime wandering nonsense.
Consider yourself lucky that you've made it this long, that it's only one (so far) and that they haven't figured out how to open the door. We had(have) night wanderers to deal with, too.
